REVIEW | Target Beauty Box - For Her

*Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored by Target. I paid for this product out of my own pocket and this is an honest review. All opinions are my own and are in no way influenced by their company.

I've been really into subscription boxes lately but don't actually subscribe to any right now because a lot of them are a "mystery", meaning that I'd be paying money and I don't know if I'd even use anything in the box. While it's not a subscription service per se, I was quite surprised to see Target have their own beauty boxes so I thought I'd give it a shot since they show you exactly what you're gonna get inside the box. Read on to see what I thought of the box!

Target Beauty Box - For Her Review ($10)

I actually purchased both the $10 Beauty Box - For Her and the $5 Beauty Box - Naturals but I received them at different times so the Naturals will be reviewed in a later blog post. I actually stumbled across this on Cyber Monday and shared the deal with my roommate who in turn shared it with her classmates, some of which who bought 5 boxes lol...so that may be why they're all sold out :(

First Impressions

The box came like this; it was designed holiday-themed and the box itself actually pretty sturdy, with surprisingly few dents/damage given that it wasn't packaged in another box.

Upon opening, there is a little card that gives you a short description of everything that's inside, along with coupons for purchasing beauty products at Target and a $10 gift credit to Dermstore.

There are 8 items and I felt it was a pretty good deal for $10 (since the box was supposedly valued at $50) since it comes out to $1.25 per product. I actually didn't read the descriptions too closely so I didn't know that some of the items were sample-sized (read: "Target Exclusive") instead of full-sized.

1. Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen (Black Noir) - sample sized (full sized retails for $12)

Description: Create sophisticated looks with a pencil that delivers a liquid liner effect without all the fuss; free of parabens, mineral oil and preservatives.

Well cool! I've personally never heard of Pixi but anything with less of that chemical is great in my book. I was wondering why it was so small but then I read that this was a sample sized. The full sized version is about two times the length for $12, so I figured this is worth about $6...pretty expensive for a drugstore eyeliner in my opinion. I usually only use black eyeliner so this is fine for me. The texture is more like a crayon eyeliner than a typical pencil liner and but I don't really find that it a "liquid liner effect". However, it really does glide on super silkily and is definitely as long-lasting, no-smudge, and waterproof as it claims! :)

2. Revlon HD Lacquer (Strawberry Topaz) - full sized (retails for $8)

Description: True hue clarity meets brilliant shine in 15 high-def shades that drench lips in glossy lacquered, saturated color.

To be honest, I hate lip products. I just don't like the feeling of sticky gunk on my lips so I wasn't planning on using this at all. This is a full-sized product though and it seems that you can get one of 15 colors as my roommate got the Fire Opal shade. I personally wouldn't use this much as I'm not ready to make the leap to bold lips, but it seems like a lovely, shiny lip gloss in a cute bright pink shade for a great value.

3. Clairol Hair Food Thickening Solution - full sized (retails for $12)

Description: Body-boosting natural ingredients infuse nutrient-deprived hair with more fullness, softness, and shine.

So in the description of the box, you can either get this or the Hair Food Moisturizing Mask. I'm glad I got this one though and am actually pretty excited to try this out since recently I've been losing hair, plus it's kiwi scented! This one also claims to be paraben, mineral oil, and preservative free. I'd say this is one of the best values in the box and will update this if I see any significant results.

4. L'Oreal Butterfly Intenza Mascara (379 Black Noir) - full sized (retails for $8)

Description: Get instantly glamorous lashes with a formula that stretches and lengthens to create the perfect winged-out look.

I won't be using this mascara because only waterproof formulas can hold a curl for my stubborn Asian lashes. It claims to lengthen and add volume for a winged out look due to its special brush. It looks promising though!

5. CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Kit (280 Natural Nudes) - full sized (retails for $5)

Description: This cult classic boasts shades handpicked by beauty pros so you can go from day to night with effortless elegance.

I'm normally not a eyeshadow wearing person myself but this would be great as an everyday "natural makeup" palette. Maybe I'll give it a try; we'll see.

6. ChapStick Total Hydration Lip Care (Sweet peach) - full sized (retails for $3)

Description: Infuse thirsty lips with renewing moisture for a smoother, healthier-looking smile.

Again, I'm not a huge fan of lip stuff but I actually might try this one since I do have a problem with dry lips...and I love peach flavored things. It promises to moisturize, renew, and transform to maintain healthy lips with the omegas in the botanical oils. I'll give it a shot and update on how well it works.

7. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask - sample sized 20 ml (full sized 80 ml retails for $23)

Description: Revitalize dehydrated skin overnight with this mineral-rich, ionized gel mask infused with dreamy Sleepscent.

I've been obsessed with Korean skincare products lately and was super excited to try this. The package was so cute and adorable as well! It claims to recharge dehydrated skin overnight with ionized mineral water, ceramides, and some aromatic scents. Since it's 20 ml instead of 80 mL, it would be about $6 estimated retail value. I've got super dry skin so hopefully it'll help; will update!

8. Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum - sample sized 0.1 oz (full sized 1 oz retails for $24)

Description: Get your glow on with this hypoallergenic anti-aging serum that smooths, hydrates and boosts radiance.

I've also never heard of No7 but it seems to be a UK brand. It claims to have some advanced anti-aging technology with antioxidants. Thankfully I don't have that many wrinkles yet but I'm starting to get fine lines under my eyes. The sample packet is 0.1 oz so its retail value comes out to about $2.40 which isn't bad at all. There's quite a lot of product so it'd be sufficient for 2, maybe even 3 applications. Will give this a try too and update.

So that's it! My estimated retail value for this box comes out to about $50 so their value quoted was accurate! I personally think the Hair Food Thickening Solution and the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask alone made the box worth it. I'm impressed with Target and am looking forward to trying the Beauty Box - Naturals box along with their other boxes.

  1. Wow that is really a great value! I used to subscribe to Ipsy which is also $10 a month but you don't get nearly as many products. I wish it wasn't sold out so I can get one too!
